Holy Week & Easter at Douglas Avenue!

Holy Thursday Worship – Thursday, March 28

7:00 p.m. Worship in the Sanctuary/Online. “Maundy” means “command.” On Holy or “Maundy” Thursday, we remember Jesus’ last actions with his Disciples – foot-washing, the institution of Holy Communion, and his mandate that we, as Christians, love all people. Nursery care will be available. For Online Worship, please note you will be invited to wash your feet or hands, and please have with you some bread/baked good and juice/beverage to join in Communion.

Springfield Community Good Friday Stations of the Cross – Friday, March 29. 12:00 Noon – Meet at the Supreme Court Building, 2nd and Capitol. We join with siblings from many churches in Springfield as we walk and pray for the contemporary needs of our community and world. This includes carrying a large cross and stopping for readings and prayer at different sites such as the Federal Building, Sangamon County Jail, and more.

Good Friday Worship – Friday, March 29

7:00 p.m. Worship in the Sanctuary/Online. We remember Jesus’ suffering and death on a cross, with special music provided by the Chancel Choir and Praise Band, along with the service of Tenebrae, ending in darkness and silence. Nursery care will be available. For Online Worship, please have a candle that you can light and extinguish.

Easter Sunrise Worship – Sunday, March 31

7:00 a.m. in the Community Garden. Our first service of Easter is celebrated in the beauty of nature with the early morning light, singing, message, and prayer. The Community Garden is located immediately behind the parking lot. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet in the Sanctuary.

Easter Worship & Holy Communion for All People – Sunday, March 31

8:15 a.m. Worship in the Sanctuary. We celebrate the great joy of Jesus’ victory over sin and death with exuberant singing, the Easter message, and Holy Communion for All People.

Easter Festival Worship – Sunday, March 31

10:30 a.m. Worship in the Sanctuary. We celebrate the great joy of Jesus’ victory over sin and death with singing, the Easter message, and special music provided by the Brickhouse Brass, Chancel Choir, and Praise Band.
