Mission Projects Need Your Help

The DAUMC MicroPantry, Club Compass and Winter Warming Center ALL Need Our Help! Three missions important to the DAUMC family all need our help as we head into the winter season.

DAUMC MicroPantryAs an offering of gratitude in the month of November, you are encouraged to donate food for the Micro-Pantry located in the Ilini Court doorway of the DAUMC facility. People bring items and place them in the Micro-Pantry, and folks come pick-up food and other items as they need – leave what you can, take what you need. As the colder weather sets in, the Mission Committee would like to build up a reserve of non-perishable items to place in the Micro-Pantry when it is running low. You are encouraged to drop-off your larger amounts of food donations on Saturday, November 21 from 10:00 a.m. – Noon, or Sunday, November 22 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. These donations will be stored and distributed as the Micro-Pantry needs them.  Donations Needed the Most (please avoid glass containers as possible):
Peanut butter, pasta sauce, pasta, canned meat, kid snacks, boxed meals (mac-n-cheese, etc.), canned meals (stew, pastas, etc.), apple sauce, fruit cups, cereals, dish soap, bath soap, laundry detergent, paper towels, hygiene products.

Virtual Club Compass Seeking Volunteers.  Thank you to the DAUMC for your continued support of Compass for Kids! The first ever Virtual Club Compass is up and running, and has completed two wonderful weeks of social and emotional lessons, Book Club, enrichment activities, and Backpack food. Currently, there are 67 students enrolled, and Compass would like to double that number. Compass is only a success because of wonderful volunteers and they need more individuals to spread the love! To learn more and volunteer, please go to the Volunteer Page on the Compass for Kids website. For further questions, contact Shelly Kinner at shelly@compass4kids.org, (217) 414-7940.

Help the Winter Warming Center.  As the Springfield Winter Warming Center for people experiencing homelessness gets opened up this month, the Salvation Army who is overseeing the center has identified items they are in need of to run the center. You can drop off items to the Salvation Army, 1600 E. Clearlake Avenue. Needed items:  large bottles of hand sanitizer, plastic gloves, winter gloves, socks, underwear (men and women), clothes (men and women, gently used is fine), books, board games, yarn and crochet hooks (for a class they’re offering on crocheting), twin-size plastic zip-on mattress covers suitable to repel bed bugs.  For more information, contact Sue Greenfield.
